Cisco offers a flexible advanced advertising solution that allows you to insert ads in linear programming (for digital video or Switched Digital Video systems) or in nonlinear programming (for Video on Demand).

• Designed to support SCTE 30 and SCTE 35, the standards typically used for linear ad insertion

Cisco Digital Content Manager

The Cisco Digital Content Manager (DCM) provides the critical video transrating and splicing needed for ad insertions. The 1-RU version is optimal for regional sites and can grow as local advertisements increase. The Cisco DCM can also perform digital video broadcasting simulcrypt scrambling after the splice if requested.


Cisco Content Delivery System

This flexible, scalable system delivers personalized and on-demand content.


Ad Insertion in Switched Digital Video Systems


The Cisco advanced advertising solution lets you target “ad zones” in specific geographic areas or use Switched Digital Video to precisely target advertisements based on demographic profiles.


The local ad insertion solution is based on the Cisco Digital Content Manager (DCM), which:

• Delivers 400 ad splices in a single 2-RU chassis or 200 splices in a 1-RU chassis

• Is license-based, letting you grow as needed

• Can process a complete service in a single DCM unit or in multiple units at different sites


Ad Insertion in Video on Demand Systems


As video on demand (VoD) and other personalized services grow, VoD ad insertion is of new strategic importance. The Cisco Content Delivery System (CDS) provides the flexibility and scalability to perform ad insertion according to your needs. You can preinsert ads into each VoD asset or dynamically insert ads during playout. CDS can also dynamically select ads through a campaign manager and perform ad insertion based on demographic information or other data.


Set-Top-Based Ad Insertion


You can run advertising applications directly on the set-top. In the Tru2Way environment, advertising applications provide a new level of consumer interactivity:

• Providing additional information through telescoping advertisements

• Allowing consumers to “bookmark” advertisements they wish to see later

• Selecting the optimal ad for a given viewer based on demographic profiles or viewing patterns

Set-top based ad insertion can work in conjunction with a network-based ad insertion system to improve ad targeting and delivery.
