Video over IP - DVB

Introduction

Meet Growing Demand for Video

As broadband penetration grows and the speed available through broadband Internet connections increases, more and more video is being consumed. By 2011, 60 percent of Internet traffic is expected to be video traffic.

Video over IP can enter the home using different paths, including DOCSIS. The video can go to a PC, an IP set-top connected to a TV, or any other IP-enabled device.

New Possibilities for Video Distribution

Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) signals can easily be sent over IP to a DVB IP set-top. In this way a new generation of interactive digital TV systems can be created.

By harnessing Cisco solutions for delivering video over IP, you can:

• Provide an additional outlet for owned content

• Extend subscriber reach, delivering services to subscribers outside their hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) network

• Reach IP-connected devices no matter where they are

• Deliver a vast array of Internet content to the set-top, including user-generated content

Cisco video over IP products include:

Cisco Content Delivery System

Cisco's powerful line of universal broadband router cable modem termination systems (CMSTs) provide an advanced feature set, density, and reliability for delivering next-generation video services over IP, including support for DOCSIS 3.0 downstream channel bonding for very high bandwidth services.

Cisco Universal Broadband Routers

Allows for independent scaling of encryption and Edge QAM resources and is connected to the IP network over Ethernet.

• Cisco uBR10012 Universal Broadband Routers

• Cisco uBR7225VXR Universal Broadband Routers

• Cisco uBR7200 Series Universal Broadband Routers

Cisco 7600 Series Routers

High Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet port density deliver data, voice, and video services over cable networks.

Cisco RF Gateway Series

These scalable and resilient edge quadrature amplitude modulation (E-QAM) products map video-on-demand sessions to the appropriate RF port for delivery to the subscriber’s set-top.

With Cisco solutions, cable operators can deploy video over IP service that:

• Automates the delivery of video over DOCSIS to multiple device types

• Supports all the common media-streaming formats, including MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Windows Media, Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash, and Apple QuickTime

• Provides the popular “Move” client that numerous broadcasters use for broadband content delivery

• Allows either streaming or progressive download delivery models

• Works in conjunction with the Cisco Content Delivery System, which supports both TV and Internet streaming to facilitate multiplatform video delivery
